Why Knowing your values lead to more joy
You stop chasing the wrong things. When you know what actually matters to you, you spend less time on the stuff that drains you and more time on the stuff that fills you up. That's not magic. That's just clarity doing its job.
Decisions get easier. Not every decision, but the ones that used to feel impossible? Values give you a filter. When something lines up, you know. When it doesn't, you also know.
You recognize joy when it shows up. Joy has a signature. It tends to show up when you're living close to what you care about most. Identifying your values helps you notice that feeling instead of rushing past it.
The guilt gets quieter. A lot of guilt comes from living out of alignment with what you actually value. Once you name your values, you can start making choices that feel like you, not like who you think you're supposed to be.
Connection deepens. One ingredient in the Joy Recipe is connection, and values are the foundation of it. When you know who you are, you can show up more fully in your relationships, without the low-grade performance anxiety of trying to be everything to everyone.
You find your "enough." Contentment isn't settling. It's knowing what fills your cup and trusting that. Values give you a benchmark that's actually yours, not borrowed from someone else's highlight reel.
You become harder to knock off course. Life is going to throw curveballs. Values don't stop that. But they give you something steady to return to when everything feels uncertain, which is its own quiet form of joy.
